OHHH the sacrifices!!

Updated: Oct 23, 2023

I've been in a Master's program for 6 months now.

6 incredibly challenging months. The one good thing is the cupcake I am about to eat in this picture! Haha just kidding! A little dramatic!!!

I'm not sure why but I think I may have glamourized a master's program, not fully appreciating and understanding the depth and hard work required.

Perhaps I thought I was going to be Elle Woods when she went to law school!

I did not fully count the cost. (and I'm not just talking about the crazy cost of tuition!) I knew it would require some sacrifice on my end but I did not have the full picture here.

As the saying goes, nothing great was ever accomplished without making sacrifices.

The first sacrifice that comes to mind is missing Beyonce's concert in Vancouver. Listen, I had

manifested HARD for those tickets! And since her Renaissance album dropped in the summer of 2022, I was waiting for her tour announcement.

I did not care that I had nosebleed seats, just as long as I was in the same room as Queen Bey.

Then reality hit me as the concert got closer. It just wasn't possible for me to make it to her concert as I have this responsibility and commitment with school. THANK Creator for TikTok!!!! I watched hours upon hours (probably more than I should have, cause ya know, school work!) so I got to sort of see the concert!

I felt like I had to sacrifice so much already, so not my Beyonce tickets, Creator!!!! My weekends, trips, friend time, ceremony, pow wows, basically my whole summer. So I had to learn to surrender to my commitment and REFRAME my thinking, otherwise I would be overwhelmed with sadness. (oh but I still had some seriously sad days!) I had to remember, this was only temporary. And had to remember my WHY. But I'm gonna be real for a moment. I had to dig deep some days to not give up!!!! I distinctly remember one day I was questioning hard why I am doing this! I mean, I like, no I love my life as it is! Why on earth did I want to change things by adding this huge commitment. So one day I said to a colleague, "I don't know what I'm doing. I think I made a mistake" with tears in my eyes. (gosh, I tear up just thinking about that moment!) And her response: "You are on the right path. You may not see it right now, so I will see and affirm it for you". HOLY MOLY. Those words were medicine to me. It snapped me out of my mental state.

When you are the midst of running your race, doing your thang, following your dreams...it is guaranteed, you will hit a mental wall at some point. You will question, you will doubt, you will think you are on the wrong path, you made a mistake, you aren't equipped for this or whatever limiting belief comes up for you!

May this be your reminder, keep going. YOU are worthy of the sacrifices required to do what you are called, inspired and motivated to do.

This feeling is it is only temporary & it is fleeting. Don't let a fleeting moment, take your eyes off the prize!

AND most of all, tap into self compassion. Give yourself good and nurturing words along the way. When our mental resource feels tapped out, let LOVE (self love) step in!!!!!!!

But remember, it will require sacrifice. It will require time. It will require you to overcome the excuses when the couch & Netflix sounds so MUCH better! It will require you to push through that mental wall you WILL hit!! It will require you to NOT give up!!!

You will have to dig deep to honour your commitment!

Again I say, nothing great was ever accomplished without making sacrifices.

And YOU, my dear are worthy of greatness.
